Cuillin Hill, Isle of Skye
In addition to the physical activities
there are numerous cultural and craft based centres to visit. The Aros centre
in Portee offers an insight into the dramatic history of the highlands while
the home of the clan MacLeod and the presents chief reside in the spectacular
Dunvagan castle. Amoung numerous other attractions are the Talisker whisky
distillery and the Clan Donald centre, which has award-winning gardens.
The wide range of craft centres includes
potteries, knitwear, skye marble jewellery, a tannery as well as several artists'
studios presenting paintings, illustrations,
photographs and
sculptures of the spectacular Skye scenery. One of Skye`s craft shops has even
been voted "Best Craft Shop in Scotland". In many of these craft centres you
can actually watch as they use their skills to produce their very individual
goods. In some you can even try your hand at it too!!
Portree, Isle of Skye
In addition to and complementing the
amazing scenery on Skye, is the equally impressive wildlife. The landscape is
home to a wealth of wildlife and on the island there is the opportunity for
bird watch, marine wildlife cruises, seal watching boat trips and even an otter
sanctuary. On lucky occasions even rarer wildlife is seen such as Golden
eagles, whales and porpoise and Adder snakes, although it might be best to see
the snakes in the Skye Serpentarium!!
